Tell us about what you do.

I am an artist & photographer

How did you get started?

I am from Englewood, Chicago. I wanted to take some pictures of a neighborhood I grew up in and present it in a positive light. What started out with only a couple of photos and turned the project into a year long process and finished with a full photographic exhibit accompanied with a book; both titled “I AM ENGLEWOOD.”

What has been the most challenging moment in your career?

Truly understanding my path has presented both challenges and triumphs. Understanding what artwork is and what it represents to me has lead me to believe it can truly change the world. Coming to that understanding was challenging.

What was the most braggable moment?

Selling 9 out of 13 pieces at my first art show was a major accomplishment for me.

What would you say is your biggest weakness?

My inability to be patient is a constant work in progress. Patience is an everyday challenge for me.

And your greatest strength?

My greatest strength is that I believe I can accomplish whatever I put my mind to. As long as my heart is in the right place, I can do it.

What was the greatest lesson you’ve learned from a mistake?

The greatest lesson I have learned from a mistake is that there are no mistakes. Everything we do is for a reason. Most experiences, negative or positive, have the potential to be a teachable moment. They provide a spot in time to help us understand and grow, thus becoming better people.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love my ability to create, and my ability to see something and showcase its true beauty. Even when that beauty is often times unnoticed by most of the world.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Be patient in the process. Don’t rush it. It will come. As long as you’re a kind, humble, and patient, you will get what you desire.

How do you define happiness?

Happiness is being thankful for what you have. Being grateful for the blessings you have been given and loving each and every day.

What book are you currently reading?

The Power by Rhonda Byrne

What’s a personal habit that you believe contributes to your success?

Being orderly and highly detailed both contribute to my success. In addition,  order and attention to details allow me to bring calm to what can sometimes be a chaotic world.

Have you collaborated with another business/artist in the past? (if yes tell us how it benefited you, if no tell us how you would like to).

Yes I have. The Frame Shop (a framing company and seller of art) allowed me to host my first art show in one of their stores. They designed all of the frames for a 13 piece show and 9 out of 13 pieces sold. It showed me that I can be successful at being an artist. The ability to turn my passion into something that can also become profitable is an amazing feeling.
