The Florida Department of Health has given the green light for Modern Health Concepts to sell low-THC and medical marijuana.

The Miami-based dispensary is one among about 55 establishments statewide that have applied for authorization to process and dispense marijuana for the treatment of diseases outlined by the Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act of 2014. (Up for vote in the upcoming November election, the legislation may be getting an update that will expand the prospective medical cannabis industry.)

“The Modern Health Concepts team has worked diligently to ensure that from seed to sale, our medical cannabis products meet or exceed the state’s safety and quality standards and, as a result, the Department of Health has approved Modern Health Concepts to process and dispense,” said Modern Health Concepts CEO Richard Young.

Modern Health Concepts offers online appointment requests and mobile delivery to those enrolled in the Department of Health Compassionate User Registry in South Florida.

It is reportedly the only Florida dispensary licensed to manufacture and sell a low-THC cannabis oil called Haleigh’s Hope. The substance — whose “low-THC” designation implies trace amounts THC, the psychoactive substance in marijuana that can give users a high — is used to treat patients suffering from epilepsy, seizure disorders and muscle spasms.

On A1MMJ, an online medical marijuana publication and database, Modern Health Concepts is touted for its stock of Haleigh’s Hope, as well as its dual-language site.

“One thing that I thought was especially impressive is their website features a page for patients that prefer to read in Spanish,” one review said. “This to me speaks volumes about their commitment to helping all deserving Floridians.”

Modern Health Concepts is set to open multiple retail locations throughout the tri-county region in 2017, the company said.
