Brick House Media Co is a multimedia marketing company that supports experts

transforming into leaders. They strategically build graphical websites, produce new

video content, photography, email marketing, social media and content curation for

their bold clients.

How did you get started?

As a child I wanted to be a photographer. My undergraduate degree is in photography, video and cultural anthropology from University of Colorado, Boulder. I ran my own freelance photography business, Brick House Images from 2000-2015 as a full-time and part-time passion business. In 2013, I developed our evolving multimedia marketing for our first client. Since then we have grown, been recognized as an emerging thought leader ourselves in the area of digital media for small business.

What has been the most challenging moment in your career?

Before I had attained my MBA, I was not clear on how I could sustainably grow and run a business I valued. I felt I had lots of ideas and no way to truly implement them the way I wanted to. I do not feel like this any more and are empowered and supported.

What was the most braggable moment?

In 2014, we won an award for eco-social media innovation for business efficiency. It was a defining moment to realize I had created a bold new impact platform that leverages other technologies for a positive impact. Being on stage getting an award from my peers was quite meaningful and a lasting memory.

What would you say is your biggest weakness?

I define weaknesses, as areas I have not had time to develop or areas I am consciously not putting attention towards. I tend to ‘move fast and break things’ as the Facebook motto goes. I want to run out and build and sometimes do not taking the time and research before I release it. It is an area I see as both a positive and negative depending on my perspective.

And your greatest strength?

I am a creative hustler at heart. I have abilities to learn fast, implement on the fly          and creatively build. We live in fast, dynamic times and so I feel these traits support       my success and survival in this world. Basing in the San Francisco Bay Area, you feel compelled to succeed, and get encouragement from the ecosystem of development happening here.

What was the greatest lesson you’ve learned from a mistake?

I would say I have learned that sometimes things need to fail. It could be a   relationship, a service we offer or a way of working that need to go. If you come from a place of integrity and honesty you can see what is not working and pivot or drop it. Working to maintain clear communication with everyone you interact with is key, but remembering they may not hold that value. Business is complicated and human dynamics are often the most challenging realms.

What do you love most about what you do?

We are privileged to work with bold entrepreneurs and innovative founders, people truly breaking the mold. These people inspire us to work harder, do more and join them in celebrating the wins. I am honored to support them and seeing them evolve and grow fills me with gratitude.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I am a big fan or Richard Branson and Tony Robbins and have been fortunate to hear them speak. Both often speak of the power of gratitude and how that is the key metric to happiness and success. One of my favorite quotes from Tony is “Replace Expectation with Appreciation.” I think of this daily, as most people in the world make about $10 a day and are incredibly challenged to survive. My life and our opportunities is a massive gift, one I do not take lightly.

How do you define happiness?

As mentioned, happiness is feeling the freedom to create the life you want. It is also the
ability to reflect on all that I am grateful for. Happiness is a river and always flows… sometimes heavy and sometimes light, but always there. We are the only animal in the world, that can think about something and be happy or sad, it is our choice.

What book are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Gary Vaynerchuck’s, Crush It, as I find his hustle mindset very motivating. I have recently read, Simon Sinek’s, Start With Why and it is actively shaping my perspective on how to frame a business model. Seth Godin’s book, All Marketers Tell Stories, is a fantastic read, we believe we know why we buy things!

What’s a personal habit that you believe contributes to your success?

As mentioned, I am a hustler at heart… I rarely back down from an opportunity. I often have to suppress a fear and rise to a courageous level to tackle something new. As humans, we inherently do not like change, so I am actively take that on and change areas that are not working.

Have you collaborated with another business/artist in the past?

I recently collaborated with other experts, colleagues and organizations for our bold online course, Break On Through, a thought leadership development program. We’re enrolling topic experts and value-aligned partners into the body of the course to help reach many more people. Our modern world is about real impact and scalable reach, so leveraging larger communities is quite necessary. I focus on providing immense value to all involved, and exceeding expectations whenever possible. I am a believer in collaboration over competition as it benefits more people and shifts the business culture in the process. We do not know what we are truly capable of until we push ourselves outside our comfort zone and go for it!
