Coinciding with International Women’s Month the Adrienne Arsht Center held a spectacular evening celebrating and paying tribute to “Women in the Arts”  that brought together great women who have made history in dance, theater or music on a global scale.

The evening began with a Gala dinner and cocktail reception followed by a star-studded performance highlighting many genres at once – dance, pop, gospel, classical, jazz and more!

The presence of women in music, theater or cinema was a source of pride for Gloria Estefan and other celebrities such as Rita Moreno, Chita Rivera or Vanessa Williams, among others, who gathered at the commemorative event “Celebration of Women in the arts”.

The evening featured star-studded performances by Denyce Graves, Storm Large, Alicia Hall Moran, Rita Moreno, Melissa Schott, Bria Skonberg, Vanessa Williams and Miami Chamber Music Society with Amy Beach, composer; Adriana Pierce, choreographer; Marina Radiushina, pianist; and Miami City Ballet dancers Ashley Knox and Emily Bromberg.

Special appearances from legendary artists include Gloria Estefan, Judith Jamison, Tig Notaro, Michelle Ortiz and Chita Rivera.

Before the ceremony began, Estefan emphasized the importance of women and Hispanics in the arts, which she considered a reflection of the “cultural diversity” that exists in the United States.


The singer and businesswoman who currently produces the Broadway musical “On Your Feet!” And will soon be touring in several cities across the country, said:

“We must emphasize this, we must exalt it and we must enjoy it, because women have done much, not only in the arts but tonight we celebrate the arts” During her speech she later quoted Golda Meir: “Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life.”

Nearly a thousand people attended this evening to enjoy the music and talent of women who, over the years, have managed to consolidate in the industry of The performing arts and, today, are a reference not only in the country but throughout the world.

“I am the first generation Mexican American and I am bilingual, and that is something that in Hollywood is appreciated a lot and from now on, it can be said that Latinos are no longer ‘victims’ nor are they ‘stigmatized’ and can succeed in the mecca of cinema.” Said the young actress Michelle Ortiz

But as the event coincided with International Women’s Month, organizers wanted to emphasize ” for all artists to understand the value of supporting the arts and educational arts, which are very valuable to everyone,” said Suzette Espinosa, vice president of communications at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

The gala dinner was given by chef Mikel Goikolea, who previously directed the kitchen of the iconic restaurant Azurmendi, with three Michelin stars. Diners could taste some of the creations of the prestigious Basque cook like the tomato bonbon in emulsion or the ox ribs glazed over low heat.
