Leave it to the Scottish to find a happy solution to a border wall. “Beer has always been a unifying factor between cultures — and our business was born from collaboration and an inclusive approach — so we thought it would be fun to place the bar a few feet further to actually cross the US-Mexico border, too.” says James Watt, the co-founder of scottish brewer BrewDog.

BrewDog announced plans to open ‘The Bar on the Edge’ a new craft beer bar in the furthest outskirts of the United States bordering with Mexico, reflecting their ambition to reach every corner of the country as they begin to brew their beers on US soil.

The bar will be built from old shipping containers and will serve Mexican beers on the U.S. side and U.S. beers on the Mexico side.

While they did not reveal the specific location but said that half will be in Texas and the other half in Chihuahua, Mexico.

“We will request official permission from the local authorities to put it there and adhere to any red tape stuff, but I guess it would make it more difficult to build a wall if there’s a BrewDog bar in the way. We’re planning on putting the bar there anyway until someone tells us to move it,” Watt said.

The brewery says the bar wouldn’t be near regular foot traffic but hopes the bar “will become a magnetic pole for craft beer fans on both sides of the border to come together.”

BrewDog is celebrating their plan this weekend with a Tex-Mex themed event at the taproom in Canal Winchester featuring breweries from Texas.
