Richard Guaty is a mixed media artist living in Miami, his work takes inspiration from his time living and working in New York, Los Angeles and Milan.

 

His career began as a model in Los Angeles working for Vision, where he quickly drew more interest in the other side of the camera.

He spent many hours at the loft of his dear friend Beatrice Newman who inspired him and helped him get started as a fashion photographer. 

What is the first inspiration you can remember wanting to paint or draw?

Traveling in Europe when I was a teenager and seeing the colors and textures of the old buildings.

Who are artists that inspire you?


Peter Beard and Raphael Mazzucco.

What has been the most challenging moment in your career?

After college when I left a secure job with a good salary to pursue art full-time.

What has been you proudest moment?

The first time I sold an art piece.

Doing the business side of art.

Creating original content.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from a mistake?

I learned that the process of error is where you learn and grow stronger.

 

What do you love most about what you do?

The freedom.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

You can’t try. You have to do.

How do you define happiness?

Its the choices you make that bring you to a state of flow.

What book are you currently reading or has made the biggest impact on your life?

On the road by Jack Kerouac. 

What’s a personal habit that contributes to your success?

Traveling has been my most rewarding classroom.
